Exploring Composition and Music Theory
The first half of each class will be devoted to learning fundamentals of how Western music works, i.e. music theory, following the basic outline.
The second half of each class will involve practical exercises aimed at developing basic compositional skills - and at developing your imagination. Exercises in melody writing, in how to "find" good ideas, in how to develop those ideas, in how to shape an entire piece, will culminate in a substantial work-in-progress or a completed piece.
