Antonio Lysy

Teaching Artist


Cellist Antonio Lysy has performed as soloist worldwide, appearing with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic and the Montreal, Toronto Symphony. Antonio performs regularly in solo and chamber music recitals. Recent performance venues include LACMA and UCLA’s Royce Hall, with members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra.

In September, 2009, the New York Chamber Music Festival will host Antonio’s debut recital at Symphony Space with pianist Pascal Rogé . He is also slated to perform the Beethoven sonata cycle in the US, France, Canada, and Italy, with Canadian pianist Jane Coop.

A musician of enormous artistic diversity, Antonio has initiated and collaborated in performances of concert Tango, dramatized recitals and multi-media productions. In 1989 he became the founder and musical director of the annual Incontri in Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy. 2008 marked its twentieth anniversary season.

Mr. Lysy has recorded extensively for CBC Radio, BBC Radio, Classic FM and other European radio networks. In addition, he has recorded for the Claves, Dinemec Classics, Fonè, and Pelléas labels.

In the summer of 2003 he accepted the position of Professor at the University of California in Los Angeles, where he now resides.
He plays on a Carlo Tononi cello made in Bologna, in 1700.
