Amarilli Severa
Teaching Artist
Amarilli Severa is a unique, versatile, creative, and intuitive cellist. She recently graduated from The Eastman School of Music with a Bachelor’s Degree in Cello Performance and a Certificate of Achievement in Performance Practice. She studied under the immense wisdom of Steven Doane and Rosemary Elliott. Amarilli received her High School Diploma from Idyllwild Arts Academy, and studied under the beloved John Walz, the principal cellist of the LA Opera.
In addition to her modern cello studies, Amarilli is thoroughly experienced in early music, having studied baroque cello and bass and treble viola da gamba under Christel Thielmann at Eastman. She is specifically experienced in the historical performance of Bach Cantatas, and played continuo in over thirty Bach Cantatas during her time at Eastman.
Amarilli has a deep personal experience with the benefits of using Alexander Technique as a liberation to freedom and ease in her playing. She studied Alexander Technique under Katie Fittipaldi during her time at Eastman.
Amarilli uses improvisation as a part of her daily practice and performance philosophy. She is trained in the Creative Ability Development method, developed by Alice Kanack. The method uses improvisation as a tool to connect to creativity and freedom of personal expression.
Amarilli has a special interest in ancient and world music. She is a beginner Kamancheh player and plays in her spare time.
Amarilli loves being outside in nature, teaching yoga, holding space for cello improvisation meditations, reading, creating visual art, and connecting to all beautiful things.
