Yuka Fukuda
Yuka Fukuda, originally from Tokyo, Japan, trained at George Mason University in Virginia and The Ailey School in New York City. Following her graduation in 1999, she was invited to join Ailey II, performing with the company from 1999 to 2002. She later danced with Dallas Black Dance Theatre for two seasons and appeared in six productions of The King and I, including several national tours. Yuka also played the role of Victoria and served as dance captain in Cats at West Virginia Public Theater, and was the assistant choreographer for Gospel Gospel Gospel, directed and choreographed by Otis Sallid.
She has worked with renowned choreographers including Robert Battle, Jessica Lang, Jacqulyn Buglisi, Donald Byrd, and Ronald K. Brown. Her most recent stage appearance was in the acclaimed 2022 production of Aida with the Los Angeles Opera. In 2024, she presented her choreography at the Palm Springs International Dance Festival. Yuka has also worked as a movement director on the SKIMS campaign, collaborating with Brooke Shields, Chelsea Handler, Juliette Lewis, Indya Moore, Becky G, and Cassie.
Beyond the stage, Yuka is a passionate educator, leading master classes at institutions such as Pomona College, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, Palm Springs International Dance Festival, and BodyTraffic. Her teaching credits include Dallas Black Dance Academy, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Orange County School of the Arts, City Ballet of Los Angeles, and serving as Head of the Modern Department at Champs Charter High School for the Performing Arts.
She is currently on faculty at Loyola Marymount University, the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), the Colburn School, and Idyllwild Arts Academy. In 2019, she completed the Horton Pedagogy Program at The Ailey School.
